The studio
Made by Joe, in Lourinhã.
Surf and Burn is a one-man workshop on the coast of Portugal. Joe cuts and engraves with a laser and turns bowls on the lathe — but that’s only part of it. Saws, power sanders and a benchful of other tools go into the custom woodwork he builds, and every piece is finished by hand: sanded, oiled and checked before it leaves the bench.
The wood does most of the talking: local and reclaimed oak, walnut and olive, live edges and bark left on where they earn their place. Nothing is mass-produced, and nothing leaves the shop until it’s right.
If you’re looking for something specific — or you’re an English-speaking customer nervous about commissioning across a language and a border — a message is the easiest place to begin.
